This is an excellent and almost inaudible fan for the Drobo 5D and similar multiple disk enclosures. The connector doesn't fit the non-standard Drobo fan socket, so you'll have to cut off the connector from the old fan and solder it to the wires from the new fan. Ignore the sensor wire, just hook up the 12 volt and ground wires. Once that's done, the installation is routine. I have to put my ear up against the back to be sure the fan is working. It keeps my hard drives at about 40°C, well within their operating range. You can check that with an inexpensive hand-held IR thermometer, available at Amazon. The original fan failed, and the Drobo shut down on an overtemp.

This fan was recommended by a friend who's much more into PC building than I am (he does building and repairs for a job). After my original stock case fan stopped spinning, I got this one ASAP and never looked back. It's so quiet I sometimes check to see if it's still spinning at all. When my other stock fan stopped, I didn't hesitate to come back and get the same one. I keep it bookmarked so I can recommend it to anyone that's looking for a fan, and so I can order again if/when I need more.

I've built computers using Be Quiet fans, power supplies and cases and have liked the quality, so I bought this fan to replace a NOISY fan in an old Tektronix TDS 320 Oscilloscope. A couple solder connections and my O-Scope is nice and quiet. Although the RPM is lower than the original Tek fan, the blades seem to be of a more efficient design and the fan still moves enough air to keep the internals cool. Happy Camper!

Replacing the decent --but not great-- (in terms of noise) fan that came with my 7th Cooler Master 212 CPU cooler was substantially easier than I had feared. There are several YouTube videos on how to do this and the process took about 15 minutes. The process was complicated by addition of a fan speed controller, but this was mainly a matter of sorting out the cabling. Well so far, so good. The big surprise came when, after completing the installation, I powered the computer on. Nothing appeared to happen. I checked everything, and lo and behold the just-installed fan was spinning (this creates a beautiful pattern of concentric circles) and there was NO SOUND AT ALL coming from the computer. Please understand that I build low-energy computers, with CPU temperatures rarely much above room temperature. (But these computers run great. I don't game.) Very, very happy with this purchase at this point. Congratulations to the Be Quiet team!
