I bought this to consolidate multiple machines into one, and it's performed extremely well in that regard. Linux host, Windows 10 gaming/development and 4k HTPC all running at the same time, using the massive amount of PCIe lanes to deliver full-speed to each GPU.No issues delegating different PCIe sockets to the different operating systems, and while any virtualization setup has a performance penalty it was fairly minor when I compared bare-metal w10 and VFIO. Somewhat of a niche market, other chips+boards will eke out a few more FPS on twitch shooters, but for video encoding or large application development the support for 12, 16 or even 32 core CPUs is worth the price premium.Overclocking: I've run for months using PBO out-of-the-box and it just works. I didn't try very hard to manually overclock beyond that so I can't answer how well it works for extreme applications.

UPDATE 2021:My rig's been running since Feb 12th 2020 with this motherboard, I got this TR4 chip liquid cooled, Motherboard's been running strong, hasn't died after almost a year. Mobo's not one of those 4 month board's *thumbs up*. I'll been running this board to the ground, threadripper still packs a punch even with Gen 3 M.2.Original Review:Cheapest threadripper motherboard with great bells and whistles. Threadripper is a beast CPU. The 3 m.2 ultra nvme slots support 970 evo's or corsair force mp500's. So you get some good modern features with this board. Chipset is solid, decent sized heatsink on the x399 chipset (gear cog). My VRM temps are very stable. The VRM sink is very large. No vrm fans built in but you should expect to need lots of case fans with a threadripper. I use a swiftech 360 mil AIO liquid cooling kit for my 1920x and it still runs on the warmer side. Im using 15 lat Corsair RGB RAM. This mobo supports good RAM. Only complaint i have is my PWM doesnt work on my CPU and Chassis fans. Its not worth an RMA for me though. The wifi works and half the boards have broken wifi cards these days. Theres bound to be something broken on a new motherboard. Ive tried various methods of adjusting the fan curve to achieve phase width modulation and it aint happenning. All my 9 fans are running at max. Luckily im using 9 quiet fans. Expect to need a big case and lots of fans. I definetly do not recommend air cooling a threadripper cpu. The mobo and ram and vrm run fine with air cooling though. Its a big motherboard. Each slot is about 2.5 regular slots. So this motherboard is HUGE.

TL;DR - It's a great board, just make sure you're running the latest version of windows installPros:This motherboard looks great. I love the simple colors. And the quality of materials feels fantastic. It even came with the updated BIOS. There's a ton of options to explore to further tweak the board, so make sure you spend some time checking everything out.Cons:Installing my OS was a bit of a hassle. A lot of a hassle, in fact. My issue it kept running into: when installing windows 10 from the USB, the system would get caught in a reboot loop. After getting into post and loading the files from the USB, it would get to the spinning animation, then BSOD. This was before any install option showed up on for install. I tried on several different hard drives, disabled the IOMMU, went down to two sticks of ram, and even pulled all the components out to reinstall. Nothing. It came down to having an older version of Windows 10. I went to Microsoft, downloaded a newer version and I was off and rolling. So if you're having a rebooting issue, save yourself time and stress and make sure that the Windows 10 install is the latest. Also, the PCIE1 is very close to the DIMM channels, like others have pointed out.

Product was up and running without any real troubleshooting needed. 1950x is OC stable at 4.0 all cores and 2666 MHz ram without any more than an hours tweaking and benching. My ram is the 4X8G Adata 2800MHz XPG. Not officially supported, but runs at 2666 with xmp (2800 consistently froze). The motherboard itself has one major con, but I would actually call it neutral-The top PCIE bracket sits dangerously close to larger cpu cooler (NH-u14), but it fits There was enough room for all dimms of ram without too much hassle. Support for dual gigabit Ethernet is a HUGE bonus! Integrated wifi that I will never use is there. Missing several 4x pcie slots between the 4 armored pcie slots is confusing, but I never use them.Over all great board with a not so great bios and flexible compatibility with ram (from what I have seen).UPDATE**Bought a second one for a 2990wx build and the bios update process was fantastic. I thought I would need to pull my 1950x to update the bios, but asrock made a fantastic process to avoid that. Now running two systems stable on the taichi x399 boardsSecond bonus! ECC memory worked right out of the box!
