This item took forever to arrive and it wasn't came as described. It came in a small package and looked nothing like the picture show on Amazon. And it couldn't have and didn't include the fan and heatsink as described. It has the remains of thermos paste which indicates this item has been used before. Also the "Intel" sticker is missing. Upon installation, the computer cannot boot which means this processor is defective.Return immediately and will never order from this seller again.

This product did not come with the dielectric grease, that usually comes with most software upgrades.

A lot of folks say this cpu isn't worth upgrading to from a i7 4000 series chip. But I personally find that to be false. I have this chip running at 4.1-4.2 ghz on a Corsair H90 cooler in a fully loaded Cooler Master Storm Stryker case. That is a 24-25% Overclock, and temps in games maxed at 1440p @144hz Gsync with MSAA. With the 128MB L4 cache running at 2ghz it fly's and keeps a much higher minimum and even maximum frame rate. Add in cards WILL take advantage of faster caching with the cpu through this L4 cache when the onboard Intel Iris Pro is disabled. This chip outpaces even the x99 with the 5830, as well as 4790k at 4.7ghz and 6700k at 4.5. Folks the X97 is far from dead with this chip and some good 16-32GB DDR4 2400+ memory. The memory is cheap enough too. I have this paired with a gtx 1080 at 2.05ghz core and could not be happier with the performance. This chip proves you can game in the future with a good gpu and some good memory. Save the money and be happy with this chip. You don't have to leave the Z97 platform to enjoy a cool running FAST cpu. This chip proves high ghz don't always mean faster.

I am using this for my dedicated plex server which runs on ubuntu 14.04. It had some stability issues with ubuntu when i was setting up the system and upon reading more looks like other people are having similar issues. But couple of months ago i reinstalled the entire system (again with ubuntu) and since then the system has been pretty stable. It only restarted couple of time in last 2 months. I also install os updates regularly so maybe the updates fixed it.Apart from the stability issues with ubuntu, i think it is one of the best processor you can find for an htpc/plex build. Close to 12000 benchmark score and only 65w TDP. Can't beat that.
