Bought this CPU for some heavy multi tasking work. I use it in conjunction with a EK L360 R2.0. Temperatures don't go above 49C totally loaded with no overclock. For anyone that works with cad heavy home projects or anyone that wants to hold off on doing a full platform upgrade for several years this chip will more then suffice. This chip is currently running fine on a MSI x299 Tomahawk arctic, an affordable board with a modest VRM and power regulation system. You don't need to buy an expensive board to run the chip if all you are looking to do is work with it and casually game. That said at the end of the day this CPU (7980XE) absolutely screams.

7980xe was purchased for a 4k editing desktop that originally had a 7820x, so I had an already working platform. The 7980xe came in a sealed container but wouldn't boot upon installation, only start up for a fraction of a second and restart. Replaced the 7980xe with the 7820x to verify that it was working correctly, updated bios to make sure that wasn't the issue. Upon reinstalling the 7980xe I realized the IHS was loose (not possible if it wasn't tampered with) and after researching online I noticed that the die is way to small for a 7980xe. You can tell by looking at the thermal paste outline on the IHS, there is a large and small outline from two dies.Be very careful if you purchase the higher end variations. Sellers be careful of returns that look sealed.

Never can beat it !!! It would appear that thy i9 9980xe is not able to handle temperature as thy i9 7980XE (I have this)… What am I to think when thy temperature says 84 Celsius and 94 Celsius for thy 7980XE????? I guess it does not take thy heat very well? I now need a custom cooling loop yet I chose "hybrid" w/ i9 7980XE this is thy better processor!!!!! I am grateful to intel for this if it is true, I have desire to OC, ty intel... Even Kingpin does OC w/ i9 7980XE! We shall see.

Awesome for streaming on my separate pc so I don’t downgrade the content I’m playing.
