When I was looking for RAM for my new PC build I got recommendations from friends to go with the stuff they used - Corsair, G Skill, etc - but when looking at them side by side the Viper from Patriot just filled that need I had to make my case look like a unicorn had puked a rainbow inside (for those curious, I'm running in a Corsair 500D RGB SE case with LL120 case fans, a Team Group RGB ssd boot drive, a Lian Li 8 pin GPU Strimer RGB cable, and the stock AMD Wraith CPU cooler which will be swapped out for an EK RGB liquid cooling loop at some point).Starting things off, this ram is great. For only being a 2nd time builder and first time fiddler in BIOS I had zero issues getting it clocked to the advertised 3200MHz from the 2133 it booted at on initial install (which is normal) and my Ryzen 7 2700 runs nicely with it. I started with a kit of 2 for 16GB in November but upon writing this in May it has been six months of no issues and I've since purchased another kit to fill out all of my slots. Given that Corsair has launched their new Dominator Platinum RGB ram in the meantime that should say something, because that is undoubtedly a beautiful integration of RGB.From my experience using an Asus ROG Crosshair VII Hero (wifi) motherboard the RGB does easily pair with Asus Aura Sync if you want to sync it with lighting on your motherboard, CPU cooler, etc and it pulls off the various Aura Sync effects well. The Viper ram does also have its own easy-to use-software available for download from Patriot's website if your mobo doesn't have lights, and the RGB options there are all great (see video for demonstration). Huge plus is that this ram doesn't require being plugged into any rgb header (as some other sticks do) and it draws power for the RGB right from the slots, so no additional cable management needed. One note on that Viper software is that it is pretty basic. Additonally, sometimes it will incorrectly say you don't have RGB ram installed and will throw a popup at you in what I think is Chinese and it won't let you access the profiles, which I believe to arise if you have it paired with the mobo software concurrently. If that's an issue for you just be aware of that, but for me I don't mind and won't dock a star for this because I don't run the ram paired with my mobo or use the Patriot software other than to set it to Aurora and let its other quirk freely run - after closing the software process, the RGB can get out of sync with the other sticks. Again, if not having it synced is an issue dock a star during your consideration, but I would argue against penalizing it because this ends up looking FANTASTIC on the Aurora setting - see end of video. Each of the 5 zones across the 4 sticks will display a different color so rather than a block of identical colors you'll have a more of a dynamic liquid spectrum. In summary, this is fantastic ram and if I end up building a second rig I'll be coming back for more.
