These drives I bought to go into a 4 disk raid array in a Synology cs-407. These drives arrived quickly and replacement went without a hitch. At the time of purchase they were $99 back in May 2012. Now they are down to $67 and are a bargain at that price. They are quiet, and did not have any of the firmware issues described in these reviews. It may have been an earlier batch, but I have not experienced any problems and they have been pretty much 24/7 operation. One thing I caution the buyer when buying these. ALWAYS check with the seller as to the mfg date on the drives as Seagate warrants them from the mfg date. Mine are warrantied till June of 2013. Since I need 4 drives, enterprise models have always been out of reach price wise. These seem to be a good value, but always do your research. An informed buyer is a happy one.

Kind of dates me, but I've used these barracuda drives for years and years. I've tortured and abused them and never had one go kaput on me. SSD is faster but still not totally tested, so I use the old standard for backup purposes.

I have been running these Seagate drives in my ReadyNAS NV+ for about 2 years, replacing the original 500MB drives that were shipped with the NAS. I have gradually expanded my NAS from 2 drives to 4 drives and have not had a single error reported during the entire time that I have had them installed. I regularly stream music and video from my NAS, so these drives do get accessed frequently. I cannot say whether or not these server-grade drives warrant the additional cost over standard drives, but my experience with these drives has been great.

Purchased one and it looked like a regular Seagate Enterprise drive in Seagate packaging. Checked the firmware against the Seagate list of bad firmware and was happy to see this one had the upgraded firmware.Used it to replace a failed drive in a RAID array.Ordered a 2nd drive to replace the drive that had not failed. Since they are both the same age I figure it is not long for this world. The 2nd drive came as a repackaged product with a handwritten label on the outside of the package. The 2nd drive is everything I would not want to receive when ordering enterprise hard drives for a busy business location that needs to be up at all times. When using Seagate warranty check to verify the drive, it provides a different description than the label on this repackaged drive. This repackaged drive has some type of sticky residue around the area where the label is attached. This frightens me and makes me wish I had never considered doing business with someone that I do not know. I thought Amazon sellers had to conform to standards. Apparently that is a bad assumption. Received something I might expect if I turned to eBay out of desperation. It seemed like an emergency and nobody had any Seagates that were not listed as refurbished except these people.Dell tells me that I can just put a Western Digital in the array because SATA arrays are not sensitive like the old SCSI arrays were. (same make, model, firmware rev)I am changing to Western Digital as I do not feel that I can count on this vendor to deliver a consistent product.
