This drive is terrific, BUT DON'T BUY IT HERE! I bought this primarily for the 5 year warranty. Well I just checked, and it's an OEM drive with no warranty. I feel jipped, I'll be honest. I'm giving 5 stars for the drive, but seriously don't buy it from vendors on Amazon, because they're all selling OEM drives with no warranty. To be fair, another person here said the vendor would cover warranty replacement for 5 years. But will they be in business 5 years? I feel that purchasing this on Amazon was a mistake. I use Amazon for everything, but this OEM drive issue is crap. The Seagate 5TB Enterprise drive is designed for very hard, continuous use in a high-performance workstation or server, and it has a 5 year warranty. The only drives this good are Seagate Enterprise or Western Digital Black Se. This one was less expensive per MB than the WD's, so I bought it & I'm very happy. Seagate has made quality drives I've used for over a decade and I've found them to be excellent & consistent.Still . . . . always have 3 copies of everything backed up. All hard drives can fail, so have a robust backup solution. This drive now holds the 4th complete copy of my data.

Easy to install. Fired right up. Great spare internal HD.

These are surprisingly nice drives. They are quieter and faster than the failed Western Digital they replaced. Hopefully they last a long time.

I installed this 5TB Seagate Enterprise Capacity HDD in a Synology NAS. Due to the large storage space of this hard drive (or so I thought), 17 hours were required to format the drive (including ECC checking). Once the format was completed, I checked this HDD's S.M.A.R.T. health statistics and I was disappointed to find Raw_Read_Error_Rate greater than 20,000,000, Seek_Error_Rate greater than 5,000,000 and G-Sense_Error_Rate = 144. In comparison: a second hard drive (Western Digital) in the same NAS, which has been operating for nearly 18,000 hours is reporting zero errors.I contacted Seagate about these errors and they confirmed that the hard drive is defective and should be replaced. They also verified that "G-Sense_Error_Rate" errors indicate that the hard drive has been subject to excessive impact. Packaging was not as sturdy as that for retail hard drives. This hard drive was wrapped in large bubble wrap and sealed inside a single cardboard box. I assume that damage occurred either during shipping or the reason this hard drive is selling at a discount [and without a Seagate warranty] is because it was manufactured from sub-standard components or it had been dropped during assembly / inspection. As others have mentioned, Seagate also indicated that, due to this being an OEM hard drive, they provide NO WARRANTY. I must contact the OEM Seller for warranty claims.Luckily, because I've had this hard drive for less than one day and because the shipping was managed by Amazon.com, Amazon.com is sending me a replacement hard drive. My only concern now is whether the replacement will have the same problem. As anyone who has suffered a hard drive failure knows, the vast majority of the cost in such hard drive replacements is the lost data and time spent setting up the replacement hard drive + data recovery. In the past 20 years I've installed approximately 15+ hard drives. The majority were Western Digital, for which I've had only one failure (after 5 years of operation). I've tried Seagate hard drives twice and both times I suffered data loss in less than a year. Due to this I was hesitant to try this recent purchase (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JGJ8Z2Q). However, due to reading numerous favorable review of Seagate hard drives (including this drive), I finally decided to take the chance due to attractive pricing. At this point I've wasted several hours and I have only a defective hard drive to show for it. I will update my review if the replacement hard drive does not exhibit such failures. However, based upon my experience, I cannot recommend this hard drive. If you are attracted by the (relatively) low price and decide to purchase this item, then I recommend: 1. Checking the S.M.A.R.T. attribute "G-Sense_Error_Rate" to determine if the hard drive suffered impact, 2. Take the time to run an extended format (using ECC verification) and then... 3. Check the HDD's S.M.A.R.T. indicators for error rates. 4. Continue to monitor S.M.A.R.T. status regularly for signs of premature failure.I would definitely NOT recommend this hard drive for important data or if there is no regular backup or data redundancy.
