I ordered this after my 1TB hard drive failed in my Lorex 8 surveillance camera system. Having a hard drive beats the cloud service any day in my opinion. I went from 2 weeks of recorded data to 2 MONTHS of recorded data when I upgraded to this hard drive. I've been using it for 4 months now I believe and it's worked flawlessly. It's an easy install, as they all are. By paying a little bit more, you get double the hard drive capacity. I'm a sucker for the cheap upgrade even if it means I get to look at the past a little bit longer. You never know when that surveillance footage will become useful after you notice something and need to back track. Great product.

I purchased these to replace the failing 1TB drives in a video surveillance system. These were not listed on the "approved" drive list from the vendor, but they installed and functioned flawlessly. The system has been running with these installed now for a little more than a month and have had no issues. The system writes over the drives as soon as they all fill up, but to date the system has not filled all of the drives (the old capacity was 9TB, now it is 27TB).The price for these drives on sale was actually cheaper that the replacement 1TB drives. If anything changes I will update the review.********************************************************************************Update February 2014********************************************************************************All drives have been running 24/7 for over a year and have been written over a minimum of 8 times each and are still functioning flawlessly. When they were installed the capacity of the system was tripled, but now with new retention requirements that is not quite enough. Since the price of larger drives is significantly less than the price of an add-on unit we will be installing larger drives in the system and repurposing these drives. We have definitely gotten our money from these drives.

This HD is specifically Designed for Surveillance Duty making this a Rugged Component. Though it is a 1 TB the Previous HD I had was 1 TB also but was for a Regular Computer OS type Component which did record longer ( more days in the Week ) but Failed due to the Constant Duty ( 24/7/365 ), this New HD for some reason seems to record less days but for the Duty Specifications it makes up for the Loss. The Previous HD could get close to 30 days but due to the heat of constantly being on it also constantly shut down even with External Oversized Cooling Fan to boot, This specific Surveillance Duty HD has not shut down yet. In short Dependability is the name of the Game. I can get at least 2 and a Half Weeks sometimes 3 but no more Failures either, so far. NOTE; Product Must State for Surveillance and is for Specific use of Surveillance only.

So far i've have 8 of these running nonstop 24/7 since early October of 2012 with no hiccups. If all goes well, i'll be buying another 8 to replace the remainder of my aging 1.5TB ST31500341AS drives. The SV35s are relatively quick clocking in at 160+ MB/s transfers for large files. Standard performance these days i suppose as the areal data density keeps increasing. All in all i have no complaints with Seagate. Out of my current crop of 16 ST31500341ASs, not a single one has failed in the four+ years i've been running them solid 24/7 with no spindowns (with admittedly very low utilization except for when filling them up initially). Either i've been supremely lucky or the reported failure rates of Seagate drives are slightly overblown. Needless to say I have high hopes for the SV35 series. Will update this review if any of them go south.
