I bought the Western Digital 2 TB WD AV-GP SATA III Intellipower 64 MB Cache Bulk/OEM AV Hard Drive WD20EURX hard drive to increase the storage capacity of a TiVo Roamio OTA.I’ve read in other reviews, some buyers are receiving used or refurbished hard drives. I did not want to install a used or refurbished hard drive. I contacted the seller, TNTelectron, and I was assured the drive shipped would be new. The hard drive I received was manufactured in May 2014, over two years ago, and I was concerned a used drive had been shipped. Using CrystalDiskInfo, I accessed the hard drive’s SMART data. The disc health is good and here are two pertinent readings:Power on Count: 5Power on Hours: 0The SMART data show the drive has only been powered on 5 times previously and hasn’t even reached one hour of use. I am pleased but I wonder where this drive has been for the past two years and if it’s not actually refurbished with the drive data erased during the process. In any event, the price was good, the warranty from the seller is 1-year replacement, and, as of this writing, 30 days since installing the hard drive, everything is working well. After installing the hard drive and powering on the TiVo Roamio, the replacement hard drive made quite a bit of noise. I was concerned I did something wrong but after a minute or so the drive quieted down. Now, if I get close to the TiVo I can hear the spindle spinning but it’s very faint and not an issue for me. The drive has been working quietly for almost 30 days and no issues. I’m pleased with the hard drive and the seller, TNTelectron.Below are some comments regarding installing the Western Digital WD AV-GP 2TB hard drive into the TiVo Roamio OTA.TiVo has apparently made some changes over time. I have read elsewhere different size tools have been used. I used the following tools with the TiVo Roamio OTA manufactured in April 2015:T8 Torx screwdriver for the back of the unit screw.T10 Torx screwdriver for the hard drive and the hard drive railsFlat head screwdriver to gently pry the cover away from the base to gain accessInstalling the drive was actually very easy.Disconnect the TiVo from all the cables and power.Remove the screw on the back in the center of the unit with a T8 torx screwdriverGently use a flat head screwdriver to pry the cover away from the base. To remove the cover, I gently pulled up the cover enough to create a small gap between the cover and the base at the back of the unit. I inserted the flathead screwdriver at the edge and gently rotated it left and right and proceeded to go around the edges. As I did, the cover released from the base.Once the cover is off, the hard drive is visible.Use a T10 torx screwdriver to remove the three screws holding the drive to the unit.Disconnect the power and data cable from the hard drive and remove the hard drive.Next, remove the rails from the hard drive using the T10 screwdriver. Now, attach the rails to the replacement hard drive.Attach the power and data cable to the replacement hard drive.Place the replacement hard drive into the unit and tighten the screws previously removed.Place the cover back over the unit. I first made sure the clip in the front of the unit matched up and then the rest of the cover easily clicked into place.Reconnect the TiVo to start the new setup process. TiVo Roamio automatically formatted the drive. All One Passes (i.e. Season Passes) and preferences will need to be set again.According to the System Information, I now have 316 hours of HD recording capacity.

This came well packaged once installed I was able to format it without any trouble and it worked great in my security cameras has lots of storage I didn't hear any noise out of it however the camera controller is not in the house and I don't listen to it all the time but as far as I'm concerned it's quiet enough for sure The search feature is really fast on my cameras and I attribute that in some amount to that hard driveI recommend it based on my experience

I used it shortly after receiving it and I went out repairing disk, I thought that there would end the problems and I was a while without using it, soon after I installed a program and the hard drive stopped starting and was completely damaged, I was told to ask the brand warranty and WD told me that I sent an OEM product, I quote what they told me:“Please note that this drive is an OEM (short for Original Equipment Manufacturer) product that is not intended for retail/end user use, therefore, we cannot proceed with warranty upgrade and/or replacement of this product under WD's retail warranty.”So they are sending me a USED and DEFECTIVE hard drive, very bad service, I should have tested the hard drive as soon as I received it but unfortunately I had blind trust in amazon and their sellers. Now, for the warranty I receive no excuses for sending me an OEM product and they simply told me to send the hard drive to start the warranty process to an address of the seller, which is far away and very expensive, clearly I must assume such costs that resemble or even exceed the total cost of the product.Really dissatisfied with both the product and the warranty offered by the seller, I practically lost my money.

I have a Comcast DCX3400M DVR box which recently received the A31 update, which allows it to work with external drives up to 2TB. But it has to be connected via eSATA. Unfortunately, WD no longer makes their 2TB DVR Expander, and their 1TB model sells for $100.So I decided to make my own with a Thermaltake Max 5 case and a WD 2TB AV-GP drive, for a total of $125.The Thermaltake Max 5 case is made well, but you have to use their included tool to open it up. Why they didn't just use regular screws? Now if you lose their tool, you can't open it! But besides that, it was easy to install the WD 2TB drive (no mounting screws required). The power cable is long enough at 6ft, but the included eSATA is too small at about 3ft, so I'm having to order a longer one. The dual cooling fans do produce a slight wind-hum that you can hear up close, but not if you are a few feet away. They also provide good cooling for the drive. I like the fact that the blue LEDs on the fans can be turned off, yet there is no way to disable the power/activity LED on the front, which is quite bright. I had to cover this with tape. This WD 2TB GP-AV Hard Drive is very quiet and you can't even hear it while in use. I've tortured tested it by recording 2 HD broadcast while playing back a 3rd HD recording. The recording went just fine and playback was smooth without any issues. It is clear that WD makes this AV-GP drive specifically for DVR use.I had no issue connecting this to my Comcast DCX3400M box, as it recognized it on start up and formatted the drive. Now I have 2TB of expanded DVR space at a reasonable price. I've been using it for several day now without any problems. I would recommend this case along with the WD 2TB AV-GP drive if you want to expand your DVR storage.
