Customer Reviews

Marty
I purchased this power supply unit (PSU), the EVGA SuperNOVA 650G1 650W ATX12V, in anticipation of upgrading my computer's original equipment manufacturer (OEM) graphics card with a much more powerful one. My reasons for selecting this particular PSU are:- Gold Rated Efficiency.- Reputation of EVGA.- 10 year warranty.- Very high quality of materials used in the design and manufacture.- Fully modular design.- Positive Customer reviews. After installing the PSU into the computer (a Lenovo K450e) three days ago, I have continuously left the computer on and I have not had any issues with either the PSU or the computer. The PSU works and it is very quiet. In fact, so far, it has been silent; the only noise which I hear coming from the computer is that of the single OEM case fan and the spinning of the two internal hard drives. (Of course, this is due to the fact that the entire system is drawing far less than half of the capacity of the PSU and I won't test its capabilities until I upgrade the video card.)Installing the PSU was a simple affair, if somewhat time consuming. In total, I required about an hour-and-a-half to shut down the computer, disconnect all exterior cables connected to the computer, remove the side panel from it, note all the connections from the OEM PSU to the various internal components of the computer, disconnect these power cables, remove the OEM PSU, install the new PSU, connect and route the new power cables (which were supplied with the new PSU), verify that everything was connected and ensure I did not inadvertently place a cable which would interfere with the operation of any component, reinstall the side panel, reconnect all the cables leading to the computer, and then powering it up. The length of time for installation was not due to any fault in the design of the PSU, but due to the tight tolerances brought about by the larger size of the new PSU versus the OEM one, and the limited space in the computer's case. I also deliberately took my time so as not to damage either the OEM or new PSUs, or any of the other internal components of the computer. For those who care about aesthetics, the PSU is matte black with white lettering indicating which power connection port is for which component. The stickers on the PSU are elegant and do not distract from the overall look of the PSU. The supplied cables are covered in braided black fabric, with white letters on the connectors which clearly indicate for which component they are used. Once installed in my computer, I must say this PSU and cables look far better than the OEM PSU and its attached cables.Overall, I am very pleased (so far) with it.

After upgrading my aging video card to a new GTX 1070, I had to upgrade my power supply to get the proper connectors. After agonizing for an hour about what size wattage to get, I eventually got a clear mind and realized I didn't need some crazy high number to power my 1-GPU, 6700k system.Use a PSU calculator online (a quick search will net you a dozen of them) to determine your needs and save a few bucks. For my system, I likely could have gotten away with going even lower, but the cost savings were minimal at this point and the overhead is nice should I add more devices to my system. As for the review of this power supply, it does what it's supposed to. The fan doesn't seem to turn on until a certain load is achieved, so it's essentially silent until I begin playing games. I would imagine if you do any type of distributed computing, this wouldn't be the PSU for you, as the fan is easily audible when it is running. The fully modular design is fantastic, a must for anybody who cares the least bit about your cabling. I don't display my system so for me it's not for looks, it's for airflow. The modular cables that come with this PSU feel quality and there are a ton of them, so many left over that I didn't have to use. Connectors are tight and fit well.Overall, great PSU, would recommend.

Excellent for the price, it hasn't failed me, looks beautiful, and is fully modular! I had a problem with cable management on my PC, so I needed a new PSU. Not to mention my old Thermaltake was starting to fail on me. I wanted fully modular, 650 watts, gold rating, and sold by a reputable dealer. ALL for around $100. And this was the only one that could do it! So yes, I recommend it. It's amperage is good, wattage is correct (No Chinese lying BS....... Yeah sure Diablotek has "1000 watts for $40" X-D). and most of all, the cables fit in easy, came in a nice braid, good quality and it just worked! Buy this!EDIT: 08/02/2016 - These past two months the fan began to make this very small whine. Not too noticeable, but something is still obviously wrong with it.. Good PSU still, I'll update if the fan begins to fail.

This is an update: I still give this a five star. You may have notice I bought the 650 watt unit. that was after careful research for just what power I would need (and still have power to spare). I am sure I made the right choice. I am doing this update now because this review was written shortly after I purchased and installed the unit. It's been a couple months now and still running great. There is a second reason for this update. You may notice below in comments a fellow posted a note about his computer shutting down as if he had experienced some kind of power outage that wold make him do a restart. I had a similar problem but after resetting power management that problem was solved.Should it be four or five star? Well as you can see I gave it a five. It is slightly louder than I hoped it would be but I did not buy the G 2. The cables are longer than I would like but than again they are not too short. Took about twenty minutes to install. It was very easy to install, directions plain and simple. I cannot say the cables are to stiff as others have said. This is an early review, it has only been in my box for a couple of hours. My rig was running well on 550 watt supply but just to noisy from time to time.My rig if you care to know is gigabyte 990 fxa motherboard, AMD8350 32g of ram natchua cooler two case fans, gigabyte 750 graphic card 2g ram. If I added a second graphic card card and a couple of more fans I expect I would still have enough power. With 10 year warranty should last longer than me.Let me repeat that last part because I think many people are buying much larger power supplies than they need. Her it one more time:If I added a second graphic card card and a couple of more fans I expect I would still have enough power.
