Acer Predator XB271HU ReviewPros:1440p (Higher Resolution Than 1080p, But Less Than 4K144Hz (Up To 144fps In Games, If Your Graphics Card Can Handle It)IPS (Better Color and Viewing Angles Than Other Monitor Types, such as TN Panels)G-Sync Enabled (Eliminate Tearing and Shuttering If Used With An NVidia Graphics Card)Ultra Low Motion Blur Mode AvailableLow Response LagGreat Color ReproductionHas USB InputsVery Adjustable (Can Swivel Up And Down and Left To Right)Has Low Blue Light ModesCons: (few)Poor Instruction ManualSomewhat Tricky To Assemble To BaseComes With Short Cables (3 or 4 ft cables)The Panel Screen Does Not Go All The Way To The Bezel, Leaving A Dark Edge Around The Sides Of The Screen (Only A Disappointment If Using Multiple Monitors Side by Side)My Experiences:This is a great monitor. I upgraded from a 24" 1920x1200 60Hz Asus IPS monitor and this monitor is definitely better. The 1440p resolution really pops in games as does the high refresh rate. I will say, however, that 1080p gaming at 60fps is still very good. If I were a college kid or someone without a lot of income I do not think the $600 to $700 you would spend on a monitor like this will provide you with that much better of an experience while gaming. I play all types of games such as League of Legends, Overwatch, Skyrim, etc. and this monitor does make those games look better and feel nicer, but it is hard for me to say my experience has increased $600 worth. If you are a casual gamer or looking to get the most bang-for-your-buck I would recommend sticking with a 1080p monitor. It is also worth noting that this monitor will require you to have a fairly strong NVidia graphics card to use it to its full potential. Features such as G-Sync and ULMB require an NVidia card. They do, however, make similar monitors with features such as Freesync that will work with AMD graphics cards. To get the full 1440p@144fps you will have to connect this monitor to you computer using a display port cable. The included cable it only about 4ft. so you may need to purchase a longer cable. I got a 15ft. cable on amazon for about $12. If you use HDMI you will be limited to 1440p and 60fps so I highly recommend using a display port cable to connect this monitor. The OSD (display menu) is fairly user friendly. I am a computer savvy person and it took me about 30 minutes to really understand and play with all the available options in this monitor's OSD.Outside of gaming this monitor has both advantages and disadvantages. At 1440p you will have more space on your desktop for various applications, typing, coding, etc. but while watching movies or viewing pictures online you may find them to be smaller. Because this monitor is nearly double the resolution of most online video and pictoral content you may find YouTube and other videos to be smaller, but sharper on the screen. If you spend most of your time watching movies, such as YouTube or Netflix (especially if not viewing at full screen), you may be better off with a regular 1080p monitor.I did not find any dead pixels, significant back light bleed, or any other defect with this product.Closing Thoughts:This is a great high-end monitor for your above-average gamer with fiscal means. Your experience will be better than at 1080p60fps, but by how much depends on the user. It comes with all the bells and whistles one would look for in a gaming monitor, but at a high price. The instructions manual is a little sub-par. To use this monitor to its fullest you will have to be a little bit computer saavy and cannot just simply plug it into any computer and expect miracles, but will have to have the correct hardware and will need to adjust settings in your computer and in the monitor's OSD.6 Month Update:I've been using this monitor for 6 months now. I would still have to stand by my previous review. This is still the best monitor I have used for gaming, but it is not without flaws. If you spend a lot of time gaming and you want the best playing at 1440p, at high FPS will make gaming better, but how much better is debatable. If you are looking for the best bang for your buck look elsewhere. If you have the means and are an enthusiast you will get the most out of your high-end GPU/CPU combination with this monitor. Playing BF1 at max settings, 1440p at aprox 120FPS looks simply amazing.

Okay, I have to start off my review by saying that this purchase decision was based off numerous factors which required extensive research.1.) I wanted G-Sync.2.) I wanted great color quality which I could get from an IPS monitor.3.) I wanted it to be bigger than my 22 inch screen which I had been using since 2004.4.) I wanted to be able to calibrate it to do some minor, hobbyist photoshop, video editing, and motion graphics work if I feel the need to.There are currently a lot of monitors out there, but not all of them do everything that you may want. Some monitors may be great for gaming but end up delivering washed out colors when watching movies. Some monitors are great for video editing and photography work, but would add significant latency to your gaming and also not include NVIDIA's gsync technology which removes screen tearing without limiting your FPS.I needed something that would be the best of both worlds. It was either this or the ASUS. Dell currently does not have a gsync monitor that delivers what I want and quite frankly, when it comes to G sync selection and screen size there are not many monitors options out there (currently. The ASUS and the ACER Predator were the two I had to choose from.Though I haven't seen my friends Asus monitor, I knew that the Acer would be the better choice for me. Though it is slightly more expensive, the overall positive reviews and little complaints about build quality led me to making this purchase. Does it match up to the reviews? Yes, yes it does.First off with the shipment I got. NO DEAD PIXELS, thank God!Out of the box, the monitor is fairly simple to assemble and the stand is extremely sturdy. It sits tall, has a swivel you can turn. I don't really customize my monitor positioning too much, so I'm not sure if the stand is adjustable in terms of height. Also, don't let the red feet scare you off. Like other reviewers have said, it's more of a dark red and is really not that noticeable. Also, you'll spend most of your time looking at the screen, not the feet. You will need to do some color calibrations on your monitor, but don't be intimidated by this. By default it will start off a bit orange and warm. If you, youtube some color calibrations for the monitor you will find a video that suits your needs. One of the slightly annoying things I found with this monitor is that it has built in speakers. You generally don't want to use these and will have to mute them or put the volume at zero, then go into your volume mixer settings and make sure you set the output to speakers and not the monitor audio.Sometimes your computer may "forget" that you switched your audio to play out of the speakers. So if you don't hear any audio, make sure you check that volume mixer again. Also, the monitor menu is not very intuitive, so expect yourself to accidentally close out of menus when you meant to go back to a different one.So how do the games and movies look? Well, when I booted up Battlefield 1 and turned on G-Sync and bumped the resolution, my text and graphics went from blurry mess to crisp, clear, and beautiful, gorgeous graphics. In games like Battlefield, The Division, The Witcher 3, I was able to see crisp details like the fiber on the clothes, the details on the guns, and gorgeous rendering of skies and lighting, simply mind blowing. For testing, I booted up Battlefield 1 single player and did the plane mission where you're flying above London. If that doesn't drop your jaw, nothing will (or you already had a high end monitor.)Sure you can see this stuff on a regular, smaller screen monitor, but the bigger monitor allows you to see a lot more details that you simply can't see on a smaller screen. Also, the complete lack of screen tearing makes everything run buttery smooth without any hitching or jitter. (Please note that these settings are limited to your video card and CPU. I was running smooth gameplay on a 980 Ti with a 6700k Skylake processor. If you're planning to run these games at max settings on a lower end card, it may stutter for you.)Watching HD movies and TV shows is an awesome experience, as if I'm sitting on my couch watching on a big screen. As someone who was squinting to see details on a 22inch monitor, upgrading to the 27 was an eye opening experience and well worth the money. But remember, for me this was a massive upgrade. If you've already been experiencing HD gaming with a 1920by1080 monitor, maybe you won't see as much of a difference. But I definitely do, especially with the G-Sync feature where before, the screen tearing was noticeable on everything. Nothing like seeing the wall split in half as you're turning around in Dishonored 2 or Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.I wouldn't recommend this monitor for people looking to do only photo and video work, there are much nicer monitors specifically designed for that kind of work. I would recommend this monitor to gamers and casual movie watchers and hobbyists. In the end, this was a significant upgrade and one that I do not regret. It is on the pricey side, but for what I needed, I got a lot of bang for my buck.
